German President, Catholic, Protestant Leaders, Greet Jews on New Year

Jewish New Year greetings, a custom of West German leaders since establishment of the federal republic, were issued today by President Heinrich Luebke, Kurt Scharf, head of the Protestant Church of West Germany; Josef Cardinal Frings, the Archbishop of Cologne; Konrad Adenauer, former Chancellor, and others. The former Chancellor expressed the hope in his message that the establishment of diplomatic relations between West Germany and Israel would bring a rapprochement between the two peoples.
