Pottgieser announced he has launched an investigation into Nazi crimes in foreign countries, concentrating on cases in which one or more suspects reside in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. At the same time, a government coordinating bureau has been set up in Cologne to probe into war crimes committed in concentration camps conducted by the Nazi regime.
