The pilgrimage to the grave of Walter Rathenau was participated in by thousands of republicans. In the evening a procession of six thousand members of the Republican Organization, “The Banner of the Republic,” marched to the graveside. The employees of the General Electrical Company which was established by the Rathenau family also held a memorial meeting at the graveside. Six hundred banners of the Republic were placed over the Rathenau family vault.
Deputy Dr. Ludwig Haas, who delivered the memorial address, said: “We remember Walter Rathenau not only on the anniversary of his death. We think always of this great man, this great republican and great statesman who laid the foundations of the present foreign policy of our country. When he placed himself at the service of the Republic he knew well that he was endangering his life, but he did not shrink from the danger and he did his work till he fell at the hand of the assassin.”
