Baden-Wurtemburg police today ordered a 24-hour bodyguard for Dr. Hans Kleinwaechter, one of the rocket experts who worked with the West German scientist, Dr. Eugen Saenger, in developing a medium-range missile for United Arab Republic President Gamal Abdel Nasser. Dr. Kleinwaechter survived an apparent murder attempt two days ago, when four men allegedly tried to shoot him near his home in Loerrach, a few miles from the Swiss border.
Last September, another rocket expert who had worked on the UAR missile project, Dr. Hans Krug, disappeared from his home in Munich, although police have not mentioned any link between the two incidents. Shortly before his disappearance, Dr. Krug made a rendezvous with a man believed to be an Arab.
Police said today that Dr. Kleinwaechter’s assailants used three hired cars, one of which was found abandoned later. A revolver and the papers of one Austrian and three Arabs, all living in Vienna, were found inside the vehicle.
