A West German freighter, the S.S. Hildegard, chartered by an Israeli shipping company, has passed through the Suez Canal on the way from Haifa to Elath, apparently without Egyptian interference, according to word received here today.
The Hildegard will be used to carry bulk cargoes on a run between Elath and the Far East. Use of this ship will mark a turning point in Israel bulk-cargo shipments to Southeast Asian and East African ports. The cargoes will be transported overland to Elath. At Elath, the Hildegard will inaugurate use of the newest, large dock there, equipped to handle ships of up to 10, 000 tons.
