German authorities in the four states comprising the United States zone have extended the period in which Nazi victims residing outside Germany may file claims for indemnification for personal damages and loss of property, the State Department announced today. The new deadline is June 30, 1950. Originally it was March 31.
The extension is limited to the General Claims Law and does not apply to claims for restitution of identifiable property. In Bavaria, an applicant may file notice of a claim before June 30 and produce documents to substantiate his claim by September 30, 1950.
The Ministry of Justice of Wuerttemberg-Baden has agreed to accept claims from persons living outside Germany until September 30 if they are transmitted through the following eight organizations: Association of European Jurists; Federation of Jews from Central Europe; Axis Victims League; Anti Nazi League; Jewish Labor Committee; United Jewish Survivors KZ Association in New York; Association Pour La Defense des Interets des Victimes De L’Axe, Paris; and Jewish Agency.
