The Deputy Mayor of the town of Offenbach, Karl Kasperkowicz, was yesterday removed by the town council, it was reported here today. The council’s action followed disclosure that the Deputy Mayor had cancelled the appointment of Dr. Herbert Lewin as head of a municipal women’s hospital because the doctor was a Jew.
A proposal to remove the Mayor, Johannes Rebholz, was defeated. The council considered the evidence in the case as presented in a 43-page report drafted by investigators of the American military government, who moved into the case last week. The result of the council’s four-hour debate was immediately broadcast over loud-speakers to a crowd of town residents waiting outside the council hall.
