German Urges Widened Culture in Israel at Fund for Palestinian Institutions Dinner

Asserting that he was making a plea for “culture, for high educational standards and for social welfare as essential ingredients of the new (Jewish) state without which It cannot absorb the many who are entering,” former Governor Herbert H. Lehman, addressing the opening campaign dinner of the American Fund for Palestinian Institutions here tonight, warned that unless this were accomplished Israel “cannot make a harmonious entity out of its segmented peoples.” the drive seeks $2,318,000.

“While we continue to provide material assistance,” he continued, “we must also help provide colleges, schools, vocational schools, training for the sea air, child-training centers, mental hygiene, arts, music, language, education–the culture food that is needed to sustain healthy minds and spirits, Happily, the Fund for Palestinian Institutions can supply a great amount of this vital cultural food,” he added.
