The company representing the West German shipping firm employing Manfred Gottlicher, 18, indicated today it would not pay the fine of 2,000 pounds ($667) imposed on the sailor for insulting the State of Israel and shouting “Heil Hitler” in Haifa. The sailor also was sentenced to four months in prison. The fine was levied as an alternative to an additional six months’ imprisonment, which he will have to serve since the fine will not be paid.
