West German “Aryanizers,” whom the courts compelled to return Jewish businesses or real estate they acquired during the Nazi regime, assembled in this city to elect a new leadership of their organization and to raise funds for the establishment of a lobby in Bonn. The “Federal Union of Restitution Victims,” formerly known as the “Association for Loyal Restitution.” met behind locked doors. Guests were definitely not welcome. “Those who are lukewarm, snoopers or antagonists must not be permitted to eavesdrop or participate,” said the invitation to the meeting.
The speakers noted that the restitution of identifiable property, which falls under Allied rather than German legislation, has almost ended in West Germany, so that further attempts to secure a revision of existing restitution legislation have assumed less practical significance than heretofore. The meeting agreed that it must be the Aryanizers’ primary task to work to obtain from the Federal Treasury full compensation for those who had to return Jewish property.
