Despite the vigorous objections of an Israeli delegate, the International Labor Organization yesterday voted to accept West Germany as a member of the U.N. affiliate.
Opposing the admission of Germany, Zvi Berenson, director-general of the Israeli Ministry of Labor and Israel’s delegate at the current I.L.O. session, declared: “We believe it is contrary to the spirit of reconstruction of the of the I.L.O. to disregard after such a short period of time the horrible crimes against humanity which Germany committed before and during World War II. We have not discerned signs that prove that the Germans have entered upon the path of real and sincere repentance.”
