The Foreign Ministers of West Germany and Austria, Heinrich von Brentano and Bruno Kreisky, opened their long-expected negotiations today regarding the contributions Germany is to make to the Austrian Government’s fund for compensation of victims of Nazi persecution in Austria. The conference is being held at Bad Kreuzbach.
While the amount of Germany’s contribution is still a closely guarded secret, it is expected that the Bonn Government will contribute about 250, 000, 000 deutschemarks (about $62,000,000). The total, it is understood, will include Germany’s share for indemnification of Austria’s postwar refugees as well as 70, 000, 000 deutschemarks (about $17. 500, 000) to compensate Austria for Nazi Germany’s confiscation of social insurance funds in 1938.
