West Germany plans to initiate discussions on development aid to Israel as soon as Chancellor Lodwig Erhard forms a new Cabinet, Dr. Rolf Pauls, Bonn’s Ambassador to Israel, Informed Premier Levi Eshkol here today.
The envoy asked for the meeting with the Premier to assure him that West Germany did not intend any delays in carrying out its pledge of economic aid to Israel, which was given in the agreement for the establishment of diplomatic relations with Israel, last March. Chancellor Erhard’s Christian Democratic Union retained its position as West Germany’s dominant political party in Parliamentary elections last Sunday.
