The West German Medal of Merit has been awarded to Jewish theatrical producer and stage director Arthur Hellmer at the occasion of his 75th birthday. He came here from London after the war to take charge of the municipal theater for two years. His period of greatest fame was in Frankfurt from 1910 to 1935, where he built up and directed one of Germany’s few privately-owned legitimate theaters.
