As a result of intervention by the American Consulate General, the Gestapo yesterday agreed to postpone until Thursday a deportation order served upon Boris Smolar, chief European correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. The order had given Smolar until today to leave Germany or be fined and escorted to the border.
Consul-General Douglas Jenkins and Consul Geist will resume negotiations tomorrow to have the deportation order rescinded. The Association of Foreign Correspondents, of which Smolar is a member, will make representations to the Gestapo at the same time.
