German Jewry on the eve of the High Holidays is facing a famine of rabbis, preachers and other religious workers. On account of the present acutely difficult economic conditions prevailing in Germany, rabbis in large numbers have found it impossible to live on the salaries paid and have turned to other callings, some going into business.
Many of the German temples as a result are now forced to turn to foreign countrie to obtain rabbis for the approaching holidays.
