Germany may soon start legal proceedings against the anti-Semitic leader of France’s extreme-right National Front. German prosecutors announced plans to investigate Jean-Marie Le Pen after the European Parliament lifted his immunity. Le Pen triggered the investigation by reiterating in Munich in December 1997 his often-repeated statement that the Holocaust was merely “a detail” in the history of World War II. Trivializing the Holocaust is illegal in Germany.
