The Gestapo (German secret police) today banned the circulation in Germany of “Inside Europe,” best-selling survey of contemporary events by John Gunther, American foreign correspondent, the Havas News Agency reported.
The decision to ban Gunther’s book “until further notice” was announced by Heinrich Himmler, Gestapo head.
Gunther’s book, which has enjoyed sensational success in the United States and Europe, contains a psychological study of Hitler and an account of the Nazis’ rise to power and subsequent history. The author was for many years Vienna correspondent of the Chicago Daily News, but returned recently to the United States.
