Hermann Krumey, former deputy in Hungary of Adolf Eichmann, was reported today in his Frankfurt jail cell as undecided on whether to testify before a West German court as a defense witness for his former Gestapo superior.
The former SS Major was named by Dr. Robert Servatius, Eichnann’s defense counsel, as one of several former Nazis from whom he wanted testimony for the former Gestapo colonel on trial in Jerusalem. Krumey is awaiting trial on charges of participation in the murder of Hungarian Jews and children from the Czech village of Lidice.
Heinz Wolf, the Frankfurt Chief Prosecutor, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that Krumey wanted his lawyer, Erich Schmidt Leichner, to make the decision. The attorney cold the JTA he first wanted to see what questions Dr. Servatius wanted to have answered.
Meanwhile, a former guard in a Nazi concentration camp was arrested here this weekend on charges of having participated in the murder of 400 prisoners at Gusen. The accused, Heinz Jentzsch, has been operating a small construction business here.
