Nazi anti-Jewish activities in occupied Denmark are assuming increasingly serious proportions, reports here today disclosed.
Anti-Semitic demonstrations, instigated by the Gestapo, occurred during recent days at Luna Park, Copenhagen, and in other cities, it was said. An anti-Semitic delegation called on the Mayor of Copenhagen and demanded that he ban Jews from parks and swimming pools and issue a regulation compelling Jewish business concerns to post up distinctive signs proclaiming their Jewish character.
Under Nazi pressure Copenhagen municipal authorities were forced to remove memorial plaques from the houses of the late George Brandes, noted Danish Jewish critic and literary historian and the late Chief Rabbi David Jacob Simonsen.
Other dispatches said that Der Stuermer, Julius Streicher’s Jew-baiting newspaper, was demanding the deportation of all Jews from Berlin to Holland and Belgium for forced labor on projects for repairing war damage.
