The eighth convention of the Gewerkschaften campaign for Palestine Jewish labor institutions held here over the week-end, resolved to launch a campaign to secure $1,000,000.
The convention went on record as sharply criticizing all organizations, particularly the Revisionists, which seek to place obstacles in the way of the Palestine Jewish Labor Federation and to break the unity of the Jewish workers.
The differences between the Palestine Revisionists and the Histadruth workers and sympathizers had their repercussion at the opening of the convention on Saturday evening in the auditorium of City College when Revisionists, some twenty in all, began to heckle speakers, culminating in a clash.
The clash occurred when Golda Meyerson, a representative of the Histadruth from Palestine, began her address. Revisionists scattered throughout the auditorium sought to interrupt her. Efforts of the presiding officer, A. Hamlin, secretary of the campaign, to restore order failed, whereupon the disturbers were ordered evicted. This led to a clash in which several suffered slight injuries. The police had to be summoned to restore order after the Revisionists had likewise sought to interrupt the addresses of I. Mereminski, leader of the Histadruth, Norman Thomas and Dr. May Baer.
Mr. Mereminski attacked those Zionist elements who would halt the immigration of chalutzim, substituting them with middle class elements. He stated that there are 5,500,000 dunams of land available for cultivation by scientific methods.
The entire campaign administration was re-elected. The convention concluded with a banquet.
