As P. Assante, Ghana’s first Ambassador to Israel, was scheduled to arrive here today, it was learned that a number of Western Foreign Ministries, including the State Department, had prevailed upon Accra not to open its embassy in Jerusalem but in Tel Aviv. This is part of the Western nation’s refusal to grant diplomatic recognition to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
It is hoped that eventually the Ghanians will rescind their decision and move the embassy to Jerusalem. Meanwhile, it is understood that the Tel Aviv embassy will be opened within a month.
