The Algiers radio last night broadcast an announcement by Gen. Giraud making it clear that all Jewish property “Aryanized” under the Vichy laws and still under provisional administration will be returned to the Jewish owners ten days after an inventory has been completed.
The announcement also says that a government commission in Algeria is now studying the procedure under which native Jews there could apply for French citizenship which they lost when Gen. Giraud abrogated the Cremieux Decree.
The announcement adds that Jewish doctors and lawyers in North Africa may now practice their professions, and that Jewish children, who under the Vichy laws were discriminated against in the public schools, have full equality in all schools in Algeria.
