American Jewish servicemen and Jews employed as civilians by the huge Army base here have organized in an effort to keep the servicemen’s center operated by the National Jewish Welfare Board from being closed. The JWB plans to close the center April 30 for financial reasons.
The JWB center, which moved here two years ago from Heidelberg, is the only one of its type in Europe. Jews on duty here, who would be left without a local synagogue or Jewish community center if this one closes, have organized a committee to raise funds–the JWB provides a $25, 000 annual subsidy–and at the same time appeal to Jewish public opinion back home.
