A Berlin compensation court will assess the estate of the late Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda Minister, to help pay victims of Nazi persecution compensation and indemnification, it was revealed here today. The estate will be assessed next month and two villas in Berlin formerly owned by Hitler’s associate will be taken as part of the compensation.
West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer declared last night that his government was doing the best it could to make restitution for the damage caused by the Nazis. He made this statement at the opening session of a three-day meeting here of the Free International Federation of Deported and Interned Resistance Fighters, which was attended by 100 delegates from West Germany, Austria, France, Italy and the Benelux countries.
Thanking the delegates for holding their meeting in Germany, Dr. Adenauer said that their presence here would serve to strengthen the “German resolve to redress the injustices done in the past” and prevent future recurrence of such injustices. Few Jews were members of the delegations from the various countries.
