Max Hansen, famous Danish Jewish artist, and the only foreign Jew employed on the German stage, was suddenly ousted from his post today, the result of an order issued by Minister of Propaganda Paul Joseph Goebbels.
Otto Walburg, German Jewish comedian, only remaining Jewish comedian on the stage, was also dismissed because of the same order, despite the fact that he fought in the German army at the front during the World War, which is supposed to carry exemption from the “Aryan clause.”
The excuse used by Dr. Goebbels was that he was afraid of possible riots against the Jewish artists on the German stage, owing to the “proclaimed anti-German boycott by the Jewish world conference in Geneva.”
A dispatch from Berlin, published yesterday in the London News Chronicle, reported that a wide drive was under way in Germany to oust the few Jews remaining in German theatrical, literary and artistic life.
