The leaders of nations on five continents understand Israel’s problems and the atmosphere at the United Nations this year is far more friendly toward the Jewish State than it was a year ago, Israel Foreign Minister Golda Meir declared here prior to her departure for home. During her stay at the UN Mrs. Meir conferred with Foreign Ministers of many lands.
Speaking to press representatives at the airport, Mrs. Meir said that she and Secretary of State Dulles found themselves in agreement on a number of points. Both of them she continued, view the situation in the Middle East with equal gravity.
Asked for comment on the movement of Egyptian troops into Syria, the Foreign Minister said she did not quite know what was going on. But, she noted that Egyptian assignment of troops to Syria is “only one act in a continuing drama–merely a dramatization of extensions that existed in the area before this step was taken.”
Mrs. Meir expressed hope that Israel and the Arab states would eventually eatables rapport. “I think that we can say quite definitely that Israel’s achievements must bring peace nearer. The Arab states know as well as anyone else that Israel is growing stronger in every way and sooner or later they will simply have to admit this fact realistically to themselves.”
