Mrs. Golda Myerson, Israel’s Labor Minister, today departed for Jerusalem after having spent several weeks in this country. Prior to her departure, she delivered a radio broadcast thanking the people of the United States and Canada for their understanding of the problems now confronting Israel and for their efforts to aid the Jewish State.
Peace in the Middle East, Mrs. Myerson said in her broadcast, hinges upon “an economically strong Israel” that will convince the. Arab nations to give up their “vicious wishful thinking” regarding the new nation. She appealed to people in this country to buy Israel bonds.
“We are convinced,” the Israel Cabinet member asserted, “that every act that strengthens us economically brings peace with our Arab neighbors closer. Having failed in their military attack, they are now praying for our economic destruction. They persist in three economic boycott even though it is detrimental to them as well. Once they see us strong economically they will give up this vicious wishful thinking and face the fact of the existence of the State of Israel and will cooperate with it for the common advantage of all parties.”
