Goldmann Reports in Jerusalem on Developments in United States

Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive, today reported to the executive here on his activities in New York to establish a permanent framework for consultations among leaders of all major American Jewish organizations on matters concerning Israel.

Dr. Goldmann said that all leading Jewish groups in the United States have accepted his invitation to participate in such a forum, except the American Jewish Committee. He also reported on the political situation in Washington with regard to Israel, and on the outlook for the near future.

With regard to the Zionist movement in the United States, Dr. Goldmann stated that there are good possibilities to strengthen the movement and increase its influence. He touched upon the anti-Zionist campaign of the American Council for Judaism and activities undertaken to counteract this campaign.

The Jewish Agency chairman, who is also chairman of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, reported to the executive on his recent talks with members of the West German Government regarding the speeding up by Bonn of the payments on account of heiress Jewish property. He also reviewed the negotiations with the Austrian Government which led to the resumption today in Vienna of talks on Jewish claims against Austria.
