A cultural climate must be created in Israel to promote a more complete integration of the Jewish State with world Jewry. Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the Jewish Agency, today told a study conference of 60 youth leaders and representatives of educational institutions. The session was arranged by the Jewish Agency and the World Jewish Congress.
Dr. Goldmann said that Israel, after its establishment, understandably felt confident and perhaps even over-confident on occasions. This, he pointed out, led to occasional misunderstandings with certain sections of Jewry abroad.
If Israel is to be a force in world politics, she must be supported by world Jewry, Dr. Goldmann continued. This requires a new relationship as against the present one-sided partnership with the Diaspora, he stressed. Hebraization of the Diaspora, he suggested, is a pre-condition for a climate of genuine cultural partnership.
