Golfand Bridge Help Swell Fund in Westchester

Fifteen hundred members of the Westchester Group of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies and their guests helped swell the funds of the Women’s Division of that organization on Tuesday at their annual Westchester Fete, held at the Century Country Club, White Plains. More than $6,000 was added to the funds of Federation, which supports 91 institutions serving the Jewish community in Manhattan and the Bronx.

The fete is an annual event among the Federation women who have homes in Westchester County. Mrs. Lewis M. Bloomingdale of Scarsdale, Mrs. Edwin A. Gruntal of Hartsdale and Mrs. Richard Percy Limburg of Bedford were co-chairmen of the event. Mrs. Sidney C. Borg of Irvington-on-Hudson is chairman of the Women’s Division of the Jewish Federation.

HUNDRED IN GOLF

The day began with a ladies’ golf tournament at 8:30 in the morning, in which over 100 women competed. It was won by Mrs. Leo Federman, who came in with 78 gross. Mrs. Samuel C. Lamport came in second. Other low scores in the fair group were turned in by Mrs. J. J. Lese, Mrs. Gerald Rosenberg, Mrs. Joseph Warshow, Mrs. S. Lantzes, Mrs. Frank Judson, Mrs. H. Carlebach and Mrs. E. Seligman.

In the Class B group, Mrs. Belle Baeder led. Other low scores were turned in by Mrs. E. Filer, Mrs. Harold Cone, Mrs. H. Schwartz, Mrs. Louis Brecher, Mrs. L. Aarons and Mrs. Lawrence Marx.

The tennis tournament was not completed and will be played off next week. Entrants were Mrs. Henry Heming, Mrs. Samuel A. Lewisohn, Miss Hope Gimbel, Miss Carol Gimbel, Mrs. Irving Sartorius, Mrs. Leonard Herzig, Mrs. Arthur Schulte, Miss Carol Rossin, Miss Elizabeth Rossin, Miss Elizabeth Blun, Mrs. Fred Stein, Jr., Miss Katherine Hellman, Mrs. Gerson T. Hirsch, Mrs. William Schiff, Mrs. Sidney Wolf, Mrs. Maurice Strauss, Mrs. Joseph Reckford, Mrs. Paul Mazur, Miss Betty Lehman and Miss Anne Cohen.

WATER CARNIVAL

The third event was a water carnival for children between the ages of six and sixteen in which the daughters of the Westchester group competed. Miss Beatrice Bloomingdale presented trophies and ribbons to the following winners: David Heyman, Ann Straus, Orin Lehman and Eleanor Scholle.

Ribbon winners for water sports for children were Patricia Siegbert, Virginia Straus and Charles Heming, for racing and diving in class of boys and girls under eight; David Heyman, Alan Kempner, Junior Adler, for racing and diving in class of boys nine to eleven; Ann Straus, Helen Hirsch, Susan Heming and Ellen Sulzberger, in class of girls nine to eleven; Orin Lehman, John Wiener, John Bernheim and Irving Straus, for racing and diving in class of boys twelve to fourteen; Ruth Taussig, Eleanor Scholle, Ruth Phillips, Delia Heming and Nancy Loeb, for racing and diving in class of girls twelve to fourteen.

BRIDGE DRAWS CROWD

An event which drew one of the largest crowds was the post-luncheon card session. One hundred tables were set up for bridge, mah jong and backgammon. Playing continued until 4:30, when midsummer clothes for all occasions were displayed in a fashion show on the lawn of the club, by courtesy of Saks Fifth Avenue, Jay Thorpe and Bergdorf and Goodman.
