Additional tributes to the late Dr. Lee K. Frankel, internationally known health authority and Jewish leader who died in Paris last Saturday, were paid today by Nathan Straus, Jr., and Dr. J. J. Golub, director of the Hospital for Joint Diseases. Mr. Straus said Dr. Frankel was “an outstanding American of the finest type. In the midst of a busy and successful business career he found ample time to serve his people, his country and humanity.”
Dr. Golub said “in Dr. Frankel’s death the world lost a man who was at all times keenly interested in human welfare in this country and abroad. I had the privilege of traveling with him in Eastern Europe in the work of furnishing relief to the war sufferers of Poland, Russia, Lithuania and Latvia, where and when he helped formulate a constructive program of medical relief for communities whose dwellers were then still living under the most primitive sanitary conditions.
“He was an understanding leader, possessed of original and accurate thoughts on the trends of modern medicine and public health. His contribution to the public health fields is outstanding and lasting.”
