Samuel Gompers’ position as a national figure even more than his leadership of American labor will be reflected in the observances at his funeral tomorrow. The completed arrangements as announced yesterday by Hugh Frayne indicates to what an extent the nation officially and through representatives of finance, business, industry and the professions will share with labor in honoring Samuel Gompers.
Invitations have been issued to Secretary Hughes and Chief Justice Taft to act as honorary pall-bearers. Governor Smith with his military staff and Mayor Hylan will be present as representatives respectively of the state and city. Invitations have also been issued to former Ambasador Straus, Samuel Untermyer, Nicolas Murray Butler, Alton B. Parker, General J. G. Harbord Brainbridge Colby, George W. Wickersham and other prominent persons. Frank Morrison, secretary and acting president of the American Federation of Labor, is accompanying the body to Washington.
