Sen. Charles E. Goodell said here today that he would recommend to President Richard M. Nixon that the United States should supply Israel with more Phantom jets, Skyhawks and other arms “to maintain the balance of peace” in the Middle East as long as the influx of Soviet arms to the Arab states continues. The New York Republican addressed a press conference at the wind-up of a ten day visit to Israel during which he conferred with Premier Golda Meir, Foreign Minister Abba Eban and the commanders of Israel’s armed forces. “There can be no unilateral disarmament in the Middle East as long as Russia continues to pour arms into the Arab states,” Sen. Goodell said. He promised to report his findings to President Nixon and Secretary of State William P. Rogers.
