Engagements and weddings have made this last week of August gay enough, some of the most charming girls and the most promising young men having either pledged their troths or actually entered wedlock. Let us take the engagements first and note above all the betrothal of Miss Evelyn Clarice Silver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Silver of 101 Central Park west, to Dr. Harold Walton Keschner, son of Dr. and Mrs. Moses Keschner of New York.
Miss Silver attended Alcuin School in this city and Smith College, possessing all the brightness and vivacity of a typical Smith girl. Dr. Keschner was graduated from Cornell University in 1928 and from Bellevue Medical College in 1932. He is a member of the Associated Alumni of Mount Sinai Hospital.
Another socially most interesting engagement is the one of Miss Helen M. Kleinberg, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Kleinberg of this city and Lake Waramaug, Conn., to S. Benedict Levin, son of Dr. and Mrs. Israel H. Levin of Brooklyn.
Miss Kleinberg was graduated from Fieldston School, the institution into which Ethical Culture School has blossomed, and is a junior at Vassar College. Mr. Levin has chosen the interesting profession of a consulting geologist. He was graduated from Columbia College and the Columbia School of Engineering. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi and Tau Epsilon Phi.
And now for the wedding of the week. It took place Tuesday afternoon at the Hotel Pierre. The principals were Miss Josephine Betty Block, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Block of 154 Rugby road, Brooklyn, and Alfred Rottenberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rottenberg of President street, Brooklyn. The Rev. Dr. I. H. Levinthal and the Rev. Samuel J. Levinson officiated. Only the immediate members of both families were present.
Mrs. Melvin A. Block, sister-in-law of the bride was matron of honor, and Miss Sylvia Rottenberg, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor. Mr. Bernard Rottenberg was his brother’s best man.
Miss Johanna Lenz of 12 East Eighty-sixth street, a niece of the noted bridge expert, Sidney S. Lenz, has become the fiancee of Fred G. Wolff of 360 Central Park west, son of Mrs. Sigmund Wolff and the late Mr. Wolff.
