Gottlieb, Well-known Polish-jewish Painter, Dies in Paris at 55

Leopold Gottlieb, noted Polish Jewish painter and teacher, died here yesterday. He was fifty-five years old. He was born in Drohobycz, Poland, in 1879. He studied in Paris and achieved almost immediate success as a portrait painter. He taught painting to students in his Paris studio and was also a member of the faculty of the Bezalel Art School in Jerusalem.

For many years he divided his time between Paris, Toledo, Vienna and Jerusalem. He is best known for his portraits of Sholom Asch, noted Polish writer; Marshal Joseph Pilsudski, Polish dictator; a portrait of his mother which hangs in the Jerusalem Museum, and for portraits of Gino Pascin, Andre Salmon and Abraham Neumann.
