Gov. W. Averill Harriman of New York left Israel today after spending four days touring the country and meeting its leaders. In a ceremony at the airport, he was presented with a silver-bound Bible by the Israel Foreign Ministry.
Before leaving, he expressed the hope that an Israel-Arab agreement on the Johnston plan for development of the Jordan River would pave the way for a general settlement of the region’s problems. He said he hoped the conciliatory mood that prevailed at the Geneva Big Four talks “might find its way into this area.”
