Governor Marvin Mandel proclaimed today that the 25th year of liberation from the concentration camps of over 8000 Maryland citizen – New Americans-will be marked here on May 10 at Temple Israel in Silver Spring, Md. Sponsored by Club Shalom and the New Americans Committee, the anniversary will bring to the attention of America the plight of 3 million Jews in Soviet Russia, and mark Israel’s 22nd Independence Day, expressing solidarity with them in their struggle for a just peace in the Middle East. Folk singer and recording star Bina Landau, a survivor of the Nazi holocaust, will present a program of “Songs of Freedom and Hope:” The New Americans Committee and Club Shalom were organized in the Maryland – D.C. area to help newcomers in their cultural and educational adjustment.
