The religious faith of the guard placed by the Jerusalem police at the Wailing Wall constituted an issue between the Moslem Supreme Council and the District Commissioner of Jerusalem.
The Moslem Supreme Council objected to the fact that the guard placed at the Jewish Holy Site is a Jew and demanded that he be replaced by a Moslem police officer. The District Commissioner compromised by adding a Moslem police officer to guard the site jointly with the Jewish officer.
