A sensation in Moslem circles was caused here today when the government went over the head of the Mufti in appointing a member to fill a vacancy on the Moslem Supreme Council.
The vacancy was caused by the death of the Gaza member. The Mufti’s nominee was also strenuously supported by Beersheba sheiks, as he belonged to an influential family said to possess 200,000 dunams of land. The government ignored the Mufti’s nominee, and appointed a judge of the religious court of Beisan to fill the vacancy.
