The final returns of the parliamentary elections made known today show that the government party gained 280 seats in parliament, the opposition 82. the liberals 13 and the anti-Semitic Cuza party 9.
The Roumanian elections began with more than the usual display of governmental terrorism, according to a Vienna despatch to the “Chicago Tribune.” According to a Bucharest report an opposition candidate in the Province of Hfov and a priest were killed by government adherents with the assistance of gendarmes. Another opposition candidate was arrested and imprisoned to prevent him from electioneering, the “Chicago Tribune” despatch stated.
In several districts whole villages believed to support the opposition were surrounded by gendarmes and quarantined, under the pretext of an outbreak of plague, but really in order to prevent voting, the despatch stated.
