On condition that they do not lease their lands to Jews, the Palestine government today granted loans to Arabs in Beisan who were on the verge of selling their property to Jews because of their inability to pay their mortgages.
To prevent the Beisan Arabs from carrying out their contemplated transactions with the Jews after having received the loans, the government has placed these loans under mortgage, thus making it actually impossible to effect sale of Beisan land without the approval of the government.
The land in Beisan was turned over to Bedouins by the Palestine government many years ago as a gift. Some of the Bedouins recently started to dispose of the land to Jews at high prices, on the pretext that they could not meet their obligations. The present act of the government is aimed to keep the Bedouins on the land and to see to it that it does not pass from Arab hands into Jewish.
