A Jewish Commission was appointed by the Greek government today to proceed to Corfu next month for the purpose of investigating and settling the differences which have disrupted the Jewish Community of Corfu.
The Corfu community has steadily declined, owing to the differences among its members. The membership of the Corfu Community which at one time totalled 4,000 has now dwindled to 1,800. The Community has no rabbi and no responsible leader.
The Commission appointed by the government is headed by the president of the Jewish Communities of Greece, Asher Mallah, and includes also Senator Isaac Chaki and Deputy Daniel Allalouf.
Should the Commission be unsuccessful in settling the differences in Corfu, the Chief Rabbi of Salonica, Harbi Haim Habib, is authorized by the government to render the final decision.
