The government of the province of Santa Fe issued a statement condemning the destruction of a wreath placed by Jews at the monument of General San Martin, Argentine national hero, following a demonstration celebrating the recognition of Israel by Argentina.
The statement emphasized that the act of vandalism is an offense to the memory of Gen. San Martin, to the Jewish community and to the authorities who participated in the celebration. It also revealed that the police intend to arrest the vandal, who is known to be a member of an anti-Semitic group and is now in hiding.
