The Petain Government is supplying wheat to provide Jews in unoccupied and occupied France with matzos for Passover, it was announced today.
The Ministry of Food Supply placed at the disposal of Chief Rabbi Issaye Schwartz 450 tons of wheat, while the Military Supplies Department agreed to furnish the necessary number of new sacks, as required by Jewish ritual. The Food Supplies Ministry also ordered placed at the disposal of the Chief Rabbi in Paris the necessary quantity of wheat to ensure matzos for the Jewish population of the occupied zone.
The matzos will be charged against Jews’ bread ration cards at the usual rate of 300 grams per day.
Meanwhile, pension rights for dismissed Jewish officials were extended in a law promulgated today.
Officials discharged under the anti-Jewish statute who do not have the right to ordinary pensions because they were employed less than 15 years will receive compensation amounting to two months’ salary for every year of service.
The amount will not be less than 18 months’ pay for those with an annual salary not exceeding 25,000 frances, 12 months’ pay if the annual salary did not exceed 50,000 francs and nine months’ pay for those whose salary was more than 50,000 francs annually.
