Jewish organizations representing the Jews of Nazi-occupied Poland and Czechoslovakia are making an effort to convince their Governments-in-Exile of the necessity of securing representation at the Bermuda refugee conference, at least as observers.
The National Council of Czechoslovakian Jews in a resolution today asked the Czechoslovak cabinet to urge the initiators of the Bermuda Conference to admit observers from countries mostly affected by the Nazi extermination policy. Similar suggestions were voiced here by the Jewish members of the Polish National Council.
The Evening Standard, a London newspaper, published an editorial today expressing the hope that “the Bermuda conference will speed up the existing measures and also devise new effective methods” to save the Jews from Nazi annihilation. The paper points out that the great majority of the refugees and political prisoners are Jews and warns that “Nansen’s difficulties after the last war are molehills as compared with the mountains of sorrow which the United Nations have it as their duty to remove.”
