Governor Herbert H. Lehman will serve as honorary chairman of the twenty-fifth anniversary banquet of the Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Association of the Bronx, to be held next month. More than 1,000 leaders in communal activities are expected to attend.
In announcing the Governor’s acceptance, M. Maldwin Fertig, president of the “Y”, said: “The marking of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Bronx “Y” is a tribute to the foresight and early courage of its founders For a quarter of a century the asociation has served as community center for a Jewish population which today numbers nearly 600,000. During all that period it has attempted to foster the welfare of its members while keeping alive the rich heritage and tradition of the Jew.”
The anniversary dinner will inaugurate an open house week from April 22 to April 29, during which the entire building at Fulton avenue and 171st street will be open for public inspection. The week will close with an original musical comedy, “Whirls of the ‘Y’ “, in which the association’s activities will be burlesqued.
