Governor Julius L. Meier of Oregon, was elected president of Temple Beth Israel, at the annual meeting of the Congregation.
Governor Meier’s acceptance of this post is regarded as a unique honor, particularly in view of his arduous duties as Chief Executive of the State.
“I am glad of the opportunity to render what service I can to Congregation Beth Israel,” Governor Meier declared in his acceptance. “It is an honor to lead such an old and dignified institution and I appreciate the confidence reposed in me by my co-religionists.”
Governor Meier will arrange for the celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the congregation on May 2nd. Dr. Henry J. Berkowitz is Rabbi of Temple Beth Israel.
Governor Meier was elected Chief Executive of the State of Oregon in 1930 for a four year term.
