“It is a privilege to indorse the great world-wide movement for the Jewish National Homeland in Palestine”, Governor Albert C. Ritchie of Maryland stated in a telegram addressed to the banquet of Baltimore Jewish citizens, opening the campaign to raise Baltimore’s quota of $150,000 for the Palestine Foundation Fund of the Keren Hayesod.
“I can imagine no more inspiring undertaking”, Governor Ritchie’s message reads, “than this one, which contemplates the erection of a new world center for Jews in the country where an inspection of the past cannot fail to assure great and constructive achievements in the future.”
United States Senator Selden P. Spencer of Misouri; Dr. I. M. Rubinow of Philadelphia, former director of the medical unit in Palestine; the Rev. Dr. Morris S. Lazaron, Rabbi of the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation and Jacob Epstein addressed the 700 persons who attended the banquet. $24,621 of the quota was subscribed at the banquet, Mr. Jacob Epstein’s contribution of $5,000 heading the list.
