Greece and Israel renewed their 1994 defense cooperation agreement during a visit to the Jewish state by Greece’s defense minister. Akis Tsohatzopoulos spoke of a “new era of peace and development in the region” during a dinner hosted by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Greece’s ties with Israel have been strained since the Jewish state forged a military cooperation pact in 1996 with Turkey, Greece’s longtime rival.
